Power Supply Addition or IOM Removal
WhenapowersupplyisaddedoranIOMmoduleisremoved,theG3respondstotheincreasein
availablepowerby:
1. Detectingthepowersupplyadditionandrecalculatingavailablepower(addingcapacityof
thenewpowersupplyoraccountingforlessloadwithremovalofanIOMmodule).
2. Subtractingthepower
capacityforitsbasesystemandallinstalledmodulesfromavailable
power.
3. DistributingremainingpowerequallyacrossinstalledPoEcontrollersbyreprogramming
maximumpowerineachcontroller.
Installing a Power Supply
Powersuppliesareinstalledineitherofthetwoslotslocatedatthebackofthechassis,asshown
inFigure 2 ‐2.Ifyouintendtoinstallonlyasinglepowersupply,itcanbeinstalledineitherofthe
slots,althoughthePWR1slotisleftopenforyour
convenience.
ToinstalloneorbothpowersuppliesintheG‐Seriesswitch,refertothefollowingfiguresand
proceedasfollows:
1. Withanantistaticwriststrapattachedtoyourwrist,unpackthepowersupplybyremovingit
fromitsshippingboxandstrippingthepackingmaterial.(Savetheshippingboxand
materialsintheeventtheunitmustbereshipped.)
2. Removethepowersupplyfromitsprotectivewrapping.
3. Examinethepowersupplycarefully,checkingfordamage.Ifanydamageisnoted,donot
installthepowersupply.ContactEnterasys Networksforinstructions.
4. Ifnecessary,removethecoverplatefromitsslotbylooseningitscaptive
screws.Retainthe
coverplateforfutureuse.
5. Holdingthepowersupplybyitshandle,positionitwiththeACinlettotheleftandalignit
withtheslotopening.
6. Withthepowersupplyproperlyinsertedintotheopening,carefullyslidethemoduleuntilit
connectstothebackplane,asshown
inFigure 2‐2.Themodule’shandleshouldbenearly
flushwiththebackoftheG‐Seriesswitch.Ifsignificantresistanceisencounteredbeforethe
powersupplyisseated,removeandreinsertit.Donotforcethemoduleintoplace.
Caution: Forcing a misaligned power supply into place can damage the power supply or chassis
backplane.
